Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies Knovia uses, why we use them, and how you can manage them.

Last updated: March 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website you visit. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, remember your preferences, and provide information to site operators.

In addition to cookies, Knovia uses similar technologies including localStorage and IndexedDB in your browser — primarily for the offline reading feature. This policy covers all such technologies.

2. Cookies We Use

Knovia uses the following categories of cookies:

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Platform to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.

CookiePurposeDuration
sb-*-auth-tokenSupabase authentication session token. Required to keep you logged in and access your purchases and dashboard.Session / 1 hour (refreshed automatically)

Functional / attribution cookies

These cookies support platform features and referral attribution. They are set when you arrive via a referral link and are not required to use the Platform.

CookiePurposeDuration
knovia_refAmbassador referral attribution. Records which ambassador referred you for commission tracking. HttpOnly, Secure.30 days
knovia_lec_refLecturer referral attribution. Records which lecturer referred you to a material for the lecturer referral programme.7 days

Functional storage (localStorage / IndexedDB)

Knovia uses browser localStorage and IndexedDB for the offline reading feature. These are not cookies but serve a similar storage function.

Storage keyPurposeDuration
knovia-offline (IndexedDB)Stores watermarked page images for offline reading of saved materials. Pages are cached as images; the raw PDF is never stored.30 days from last access

Offline cache data is specific to your buyer account ID and is invalidated server-side if your access to a material is revoked (e.g. following a refund).

3. No Third-Party Tracking Cookies

Knovia does not use third-party advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or behavioural profiling cookies. We do not sell or share cookie data with advertising networks.

Knovia uses Vercel Analytics for aggregated, anonymised performance monitoring. Vercel Analytics does not set cookies and does not track individual users across sites.

4. Managing Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View cookies currently stored on your device.
  • Delete individual cookies or all cookies.
  • Block cookies from specific sites.
  • Block all third-party cookies.

Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:

Important: Blocking or deleting the Supabase authentication cookie (sb-*-auth-token) will log you out of Knovia and prevent you from logging back in until a new session cookie is issued at login. Blocking the offline IndexedDB store will disable the offline reading feature.

5. Managing Offline Storage

To remove offline cached materials stored in IndexedDB:

  • Go to your Library → Storage panel → remove individual materials or clear all cached data.
  • Alternatively, clear your browser's site data for knovia.co in your browser's developer tools or privacy settings. This will also log you out.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
